This gorgeous Moroccan lapis stone necklace is embellished with an enamelled silver pendant / amulet  from Tiznit in the south of Morocco. The substantial clasp is also fashioned from silver Incorporating the Berber symbol of infinity. 

The amulet is a Hand of Fatima, which is a symbol of protection. This  is also known as Hamsa, which translates to five in Arabic and refers to the five fingers of the hand. Also known as Chamsa and Hamesh hand, the Hand of Fatima is an Islamic symbol that commemorates Fatima Zahra, the daughter of Prophet Muhammad and the wife of Hazrat Ali. Since ages, it has been a popular amulet used to ward off the evil or envious eye and bring good luck, protection, good health, and abundance.

Hand of Fatima or Hamsa also has meaning in Christianity and Judaism. It is also identified as the Hand of Miriam, Aaron and Moses’s sister, and the Hand of Fatima. The wearer of the hamsa hand can wear it facing up or down and it is believed to give the owner success, harmony, and protection from the evil eye or nazar.

The necklace measures 46 cm / 18” in length.
